Unlimited prospects for women in Defence

Job opportunities for women in the Defence sector were limited till recently. Women were concentrated mainly in the Medical and nursing core of the Defence services. Today the entire scenario has changed; more and more women candidates get admitted to the Officer cadre of the Defence Services. They get placements in the Administrative and logistic divisions of the three Wings. At present a lot of women are working in the Technical branches. The noted factor is that Indian Air force selects women in the Flying branches(Transport, helicopter pilots). Women are generally recruited during the war times as short service Commissioned Officers and they need not directly attend any emergency duty for the war. Some of these candidates will be permanently placed as commissioned rank officers. A 5-year extension will be granted to the other candidates as per their qualification and needs. Graduates with (Bsc maths or Physics) can apply for selection, as Short Service Commissioned Officers. The candidates with the commercial pilot license will be given two years of age relaxation. Women graduates hold lot of opportunities in the Direct Entry Scheme.
